Gypsy & The Bully Door
Gypsy & The Bully Door was produced at the former Warehouse Theater in Washington, DC in July 2011 in partnership with DC’s Fringe Festival. The play was directed by OAR’s long-time collaborator, Eric Ruffin, artistic director of Howard University’s Theatre Arts program.
Gypsy & The Bully Door provided local artists with an opportunity to develop theatre rooted in an emerging Gogo dramaturgy. We hired recent Howard University graduates alongside a team of professional artists from the vibrant DC arts community. The play went on to be produced by the American Theater of Harlem at Dumbo Sky in Dumbo-Brooklyn, New York. It also received extensive script development through the Norman Mailer Center’s August Wilson Blues Poetics workshop, facilitated by scholar, playwright, and director Paul Carter Harrison.
