John Mercer, Esq

John Mercer, EsqJohn Mercer, Esq. is the principal of the law firm Mercer Law Associates, PLLC. His firm does substantial work in entertainment and intellectual property, employment litigation and other areas of law.  He is also the Chairman of the Board for RAP, Inc. – a regional addiction program which rehabilitates substance abusers based in the Washington, DC-Metro area.  He is one of the founders of the Bison Express, an alumni athletic support organization for Howard University’s athletic programs.  Mercer is also one of the founders of the Howard University Athletic “Hall of Fame.”  He also provides legal consultation for The Howard Theatre Restoration Project. He graduated from Howard University with a BA in Political Science and graduated from Howard University’s Law School in 1973, where he was awarded as the outstanding student of his graduating class.  Several years later, he was recognized as “Lawyer of the Year” by the National Conference of Black Lawyers. He also teaches courses in Entertainment Law and Entrepreneurship at Howard University for its department of Fine Arts, and the schools of Business and Communications. More importantly, Mercer runs in every 5K race he can register for.
